Technically not true, and true at the same time. Though it is a trueth that videoames can alter a childs behavior and attitude, it really is up to the parents to let their kid play whats appropriate, which is why I shall never go to Australia.

Though, here is a not well known statistic: Over 50% of known genious's are videogame players.

I guess I am part of that 50% of geniuses.

Personally, I use video games mainly as a stress reliever.
Like, I have a bad day at school and then:

Games being a major cause for mental problems for children, in my opinion, is complete bullshit. Games don't cause mental problems or changes in mentality. The worst they can do is feed a mind that's already been exposed towards the same subjects as the game may have in it. Look at me, i've been augmented fairly good (and kept away from violent video games until i reached age old enough) and i've spent my time away from bad groups, still i play shooters and street racing games, and look what kinda person i am.

Or maybe don't look at me.

I think, as long as you are social, video games may be ok. But, if you stay inside for too long, you can have issues, and not have all that great social skills, therefor, becoming a problem to society and maybe adapting Agoraphobia. Fear of leaving the house. Not a very good way of living, is it?

That really depends on your state of mind and being. Videogames can alter the way you think if your mind isn't developed enough to block out certain influences. For example, I've been playing violent videogames since I starded having hand-eye coordination. I found out that I have this uncanny mentality of being invincable. Can you believe that? After being a badass in videogames, I feel I'm a badass in real life. Luckily I have friends and martial arts to back me up, but I get my as handed to me more than I'd like. Though luckily I know enough not to actually KILL anyone... though sometimes I do have those urges. But I've also noticed that I live in a very sadistic and selfish environment. Me and the people I hang around with could here or see someone die and not give it a second thought... isn't that called being a sociopath?

*cough*
A sociopath is someone who has a mental disorder causing them to not believe in anyone/thing else's existence and/or mattering.

In other words, they honestly thing that they are the only person in the world who exists/matters.

Playing videogames and you!

In this retarded presentation, I will explain almost all of the effects of videogames!

VGE1P1: Videogames can lead to great knowledge. Don't believe me? Say you're eight and you were never exposed to violence. You play an 18+ videogame. You get disturbed.
VGE1Pr1 (continued): "Mommy, why do people squirt red stuff and go to sleep when they get shot?"
"They die, it is a natural part of life, son. But you don't have experience it now or later, as long as you don't play with guns!"
"Thank you mommy!"

VGE2: You may be taught what is or isn't real at a young age!

VGE3: You may learn what words to avoid saying at a damn young age!

VGE4P1: You are twenty-two. You're studying for the last test you will ever have in college. You feel like you want to kill yourself, but then, you look at your console/PC. You play a video game briefly, and most of the stress is gone.

BAD EFFECTS:
VGBE1: Dehumanization. You no longer talk to people in real life and only use technology.

I think that's about it.

I think games are nice, though, of course there must be ratings, but whatever (has an open mind now... music does that to me) I think that, as long as there is some degree of good excersize, then everything would be alright. Smile

Whats this? I'm off sick and you all change the subject of the thread? INFRACTIONS FOR ALL!, well, LadyAkari, Sirrin Nacht, and nrocha20 anyway. I would do it to Damian, but that would be quite impossible.

So now. No bullshit, were talking about the theory of videogames rotting the mind. Which it doesn't, but it does to your eyes and social life. :3

I know this thread is old, but I have something to say. A lot of times while playing video games, I get angry. This is pretty much just with MW2.

like when you slammed your headset and broke it? and yelled and screamed and carried on? a bit dude. but seriously. video games do not rot the brain. if anything you learn from the video games. mainly what NOT to do but non-the-less you still learn a lot. they may give you carpeltunnel (spelling error) and may make you a non-social life nerd that has no friends. but if you know how to not do/get those things. then video games do NOT rot your brain. small minded people only believe they do.

But how about those who have been risen wrong all the way? Those who are the ones that actually get a belief of that you can do whatever you can as they've played too much GTA, those who later on shoot passing cars with rifles and usually kill someone?

Video games DO rot the brain, if the brains are sensitive for such material and can't differ it from reality.

It actually isn't that simple. I don't think every time a person buys a violent video game, he's taken through a psychologic test, especially when 18+ games are being sold for 10-year olds. You can't actually tell is the person affected by the video game until something less confortable happens.
